YAY Chicago!

After five awesome days in Chicago (and western Illinois, but we'll just call it Chicago for simplicity sake), Amit and I are off to Denver, the next stop on our road trip! We had a wonderful two-day Thanksgiving- one "graduate student" Thanksgiving with Ben (Amit's best friend from college) with pre-prepared turkey, store-bought pie and cranberry sauce, and a few experimental home-cooked dishes and then one big ranch-style Thanksgiving with my aunt/uncle/cousins where we had two turkeys, freshly mashed potatoes, scalloped corn, roasted carrots, butternut squash, stuffing, cranberry Waldorf salad, blueberry cobbler, and homemade pumpkin pie! Both a great time, but it was very clear how Thanksgiving evolves as you get older and have a family to cook for!

On Saturday, we relaxed at my aunt and uncle's house and then drove back to Chicago in the late afternoon. Saturday night, we went to Ali's favorite wine bar, Jack's 404, and got to drink together for the first time since Talia turned 21. Hurray!!! Sunday was unexciting... football (Amit's fantasy team clinched a spot in the playoffs... the most exciting news of the day!), relaxing, and catching up on a few emails. Then Monday, we woke up to a completely snow-covered Chicago, through which we had to slug our way down to south Chicago to the University of Chicago business school for our interviews. The interviews went well, and then we attended information sessions and campus tours at both UChicago and Northwestern in preparation for deciding where we want to go next year (although we haven't been accepted at either yet, so we may not have the luxury of choice after all!). Monday night, we had a delicious dinner with Amit's aunt/uncle/cousins (as you can see, we have a lot of friends and family in Chicago) and then drove back out to western Illinois to crash at the ranch in preparation for our long drive to Denver.

So that's the update... fewer wild stories than last time, but now we're getting back on the road, so the bloopers may pick up a bit more! Check out the picture of our family Thanksgiving on the ranch. The next chance I get, I'll post more Chicago pictures.

Love,
Dena (& Amit)

You're putting a whole new meaning on the word 'trekking'....is there a resting component of this trip? Seems that you made it across Iowa without Dar Williams- someone slipped up there! More hugs to the girls in Denver and wishing you clear sailing on thru to Napa...see you Saturday- woo-hoo!

Listen, you need to update more frequently already. I'm thinking of building a golden calf.

Hi Guys! Your adventure sounds great so far. I didn't know you knew so many people in Chi-town. From the looks of your map, it looks like you're in Utah. Have fun! We're thinking about you over here!
